Anthony Joshua confirms he’s ready to take a ‘risk’ and fight Dillian Whyte in a trilogy next year while planning his return

ANTHONY JOSHUA is ready to take on longtime rival Dillian Whyte in his comeback fight to breathe new life into his career.

The Watford warrior will be looking to make his way back to the world title early next year after a second straight loss to Oleksandr Usyk in August.

Whyte is one of several names in the running for the former two-time Unified Heavyweight Champion hailing the prospect of another national dust with the Brixton Body Snatcher.

He told DAZN: “Yes, I will fight Otto [Wallin]. Yes, I will fight Dillian. I will fight [Filip] Hrgovic.”

Joshua, 33, has no interest in doing a gimme fight for his comeback fight and says: “I like to fight good opponents.

“And as much as it’s about becoming a champion, I’ve always felt it’s important for me to fight the best of my era.

“Because there was this whole stigma around raisin picking.

“Boxing, if you want to get to the top, you have to take risks.

“Calculated risks, but you definitely have to take risks. And I just like to take risks.

“It’s not a popular fighter that makes you a good fighter, it’s a good fighter that makes you popular.

“Competing with the best and training for the best has always helped me improve my game. So yes, would I fight Wallin? [Yeah].

“As I said, they may not be the most popular guys on social media, but they are solid fighters.

“I’m not going to sit here and tell you, ‘No, they’re garbage.’

“I will give them the credit they deserve and I will never underestimate anyone I step in the ring with.

“That’s how we have to think. Each is a solid competitor.

“And that will make me want to up my game.”

Joshua and Whyte are no strangers, having fought in the amateur and once in the pro ranks.

Whyte clinched victory in their amateur duel in 2009, although six years later Joshua retaliated with a brutal seventh-round KO.

Whyte is also looking to return to the winning column after a vicious sixth-round KO loss to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in April.
