Apple is rumored to be preparing a new entry-level laptop simply called “MacBook,” positioned below the MacBook Air. If the reports are accurate, this would be a reset of the lineup: a lighter-spec machine aimed at everyday tasks, with a lower starting price than Apple’s current $999 entry point.
A slightly smaller display
Instead of matching the MacBook Air’s 13.6-inch panel, the new model is said to use a ~12.9-inch LCD, keeping things familiar but in a more compact footprint. There’s also speculation it could avoid the Air’s notch-style cutout.

An iPhone-class chip (A18 Pro)
The biggest twist: multiple reports point to Apple using the A18 Pro—the same family of processor used in iPhone Pro models—instead of an M-series chip. The idea is simple: lower cost, still fast enough for web, schoolwork, email, and light creative use.

More color, less “serious”
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested Apple could offer bolder casing colors (including options like silver, blue/pink/yellow depending on the report), bringing iMac-style personality to a cheaper Mac laptop.

Price and timing
Pricing chatter clusters around ~$699, while timing ranges from mid–Q1 2026 to generally the first half of 2026.
