In Hope Solo’s fall from World Cup soccer star to being arrested for DUI in the Walmart parking lot with twin kids in the car

HOPE Solo became a popular figure across the country and around the world as the star goaltender for the US women’s soccer team that won the World Cup.

But she has suffered a stunning fall after personal struggles, which include a DUI arrest in a Walmart parking lot while her twins were in the car.

The 41-year-old was found passed out at the wheel with her two-year-old twins in the backseat in North Carolina in April.

A newly released video of the incident obtained by Queen City News shows an officer physically removing an uncooperative Solo from her car.

While she initially claimed she wasn’t drunk and stopped to take a nap because she was tired, Solo pleaded guilty to DUI charges in July.

“Definitely the worst mistake of my life. I underestimated what a destructive part of my life alcohol had become,” she said in a statement.

“The upside of making a big mistake like that is that you learn hard lessons quickly. Learning these lessons was difficult and sometimes very painful.”

It was just the latest clash with the law for the athlete, who was first arrested in Seattle in 2014 on suspicion of assaulting her sister and 17-year-old nephew while intoxicated.

According to Reuters, Solo was throwing a party at her home when she became violent towards her relatives, leaving them “visibly injured”.

However, the domestic violence charges were dropped in 2018.

In 2016, the former US goalkeeper was banned from the team for six months after she lashed out during a game against Sweden and called the team “a bunch of cowards” at the Rio Olympics.

Solo’s husband Jerramy Stevens, a former NFL tight end, also struggled with the law and was arrested in 2012 just hours before the couple’s wedding.

He was arrested on suspicion of attacking Solo, but was released and never charged.

From 2000 to 2016, the goalkeeper made 202 appearances with the national team, with 153 wins and an international record 102 shutouts.

During her glittering career, she won the World Cup and also won two Olympic gold medals.

She was also the 2009 US Soccer Athlete of the Year.
