Jacque Vaughn, Career, Family Life Explored as He is Temporary Head Coach of Brooklyn Nets

Famous basketball player and coach, Jacque Vaughn will be the interim head coach of Brooklyn Nets. This news has come after the surprising departure of Steve Nash from the team on Tuesday following a 2-5 start to the season. Steve Nash is a two-time MVP and he had almost no coaching experience when Brooklyn Nets hired him in the year 2020.

During the tenure of Steve Nash as the head coach, there was more conflict and controversy than success. After his firing by the Nets, Jacque has got his tag. But the time for which he will be in this role remains unknown and various other familiar names have already started flying around.

Who is Jacque Vaughn?

Jacque Vaughn was born on February 11, 1975 in California. After being drafted out of the Kansas, he had played point guard for five teams in his entire playing career of 12 years. He was also a member of the San Antonio Spurs, the champion of 2007 NBA.

Vaughn has been a part of NBA since 1997. He is currently in the eighth season with the Brooklyn Nets in NBA. He has previously coached the Orlando Magic in three seasons from 2012 to 2015. But he had failed to make into the playoffs in all those seasons.

After retiring as a player, Jacque began his career as an Assistant for the San Antonio Spurs in 2010. He had been an assistant under Steve Nash. Now he has been promoted to become the interim Head coach for the Nets. The team will play against Chicago under his coaching.

Jacque Vaughn- Career as a Player and Coach

With a 12-year career as a role player in the NBA, Jacque suited up for the Hawks, Jazz, Magic, Nets and Spurs. He had modest averages of 4.5 points and 2.5 assists per game. Vaughn had served as a point guard and proved to be a reliable game manager.

Jacque was in the Big Eight Player of the year in 1996. He was selected 27th overall in the 1997 Draft by the Utah Jazz. He appeared in 64 games for San Antonio Spurs during 2006-07 season. Jacque retired right after the 2008-09 season.

Jacque has also set an NBA record of consecutive missed field goal attempts to start a season. He missed his fist 22 attempts to begin the 2001 season with the Atlanta Hawks. After this, he shot a 47% that was his career best.

In 2012, Vaughn was named the head coach of the Orlando Magic. Then, he became a professional scout for the Spurs. Then he was hired as Kenny Atkinson’s assistant coach for the Nets before the 2016-17 season. He became the interim head coach in March 2020 after Atkinson’s departure in the mid-season.

Jacque Vaughn returned to his position as the assistant head coach in September 2020 when Steve Nash became the head coach. After the split between Nash and Brooklyn Nets on November 1, 2022, he has been named to be the acting coach for the team.

Family life of Jacque Vaughn

The basketball player turned coach, Jacque Vaughn is married to Laura Vaughn. They had dated through college and tied the knot in July 2003. They have two children, namely, Jalen and Jeremiah. The family has maintained a low-key personal life since years with Laura not being on any social media platforms.
