Manchester Orchestra Drummer Tim Very Dies at 42

Tim Very, the longtime drummer for Atlanta-based rock band Manchester Orchestra, has died at age 42, the group announced Saturday.

The band described Very’s passing as “sudden” in a statement posted to social media, though no cause of death has been revealed. “The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very,” the statement read. “The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life.”

Very joined Manchester Orchestra in 2011 after the departure of drummer Jeremiah Edmond. Over his 14-year tenure, he contributed to multiple studio releases and tours while the band achieved significant commercial success.

The band’s tribute highlighted Very’s impact beyond his drumming. “His humor and energy were the very foundation that held together the entire MO universe,” the statement said. Band members emphasized his warmth with fans and colleagues, noting that “strangers quickly became friends and friends became family”.

Outside Manchester Orchestra, Very pursued creative projects including a YouTube channel dedicated to drumming content. The band’s statement emphasized his devotion to family, calling him “a more joyful dad” and noting “the only thing that Tim loved more than creating music was being with his family”.

Manchester Orchestra, established in Atlanta despite being named after the English city, has built international recognition since its formation. The group hosts the annual festival The Stuffing, which has featured acts like Cage the Elephant and Kevin Devine.
