Des Moines, Iowa — The bad news is that no one won Wednesday night’s massive $1.2 billion Powerball jackpot.
The good news is that this means the prize pool has reached $1.5 billion before the next draw on Saturday night. This is the third largest lottery jackpot in US history.
The numbers drawn on Wednesday night were: 2, 11, 22, 35, 60 and the red Powerball was 23.
No one has won the Powerball jackpot since August 3, with 39 consecutive draws and no one matching all six numbers.
What’s behind the invalidation of the three-month lottery? It’s a simple calculation. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
It is because of these odds that are so important that the jackpot becomes so big.
The new $1.5 billion award is actually for recipients of an optional annuity, payable annually for 29 years. Almost all of the winners chose cash, and Saturday’s draw was $745.9 million.
Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
