Tobey Maguire is father to two children with his ex-wife Jennifer Meyer: daughter Ruby Sweetheart, 19, and son Otis Tobias, 15.
The Spider-Man actor welcomed Ruby on Nov. 10, 2006, a year before he and Meyer married in 2007. He opened up about fatherhood on The Late Show with David Letterman in May 2007.
“It’s a very dramatic change,” Maguire said during the appearance. “My whole life is in transition now with friendships and where I’m gonna live, you know, just your whole perspective.”
He continued: “It’s great. She’s so adorable. She’s just a smiley, little, beautiful thing.”
The couple’s second child, Otis, arrived on May 8, 2009. Six months later, Maguire told the Ellen DeGeneres Show that Ruby “loves him” and is “such a great big sister.”
James Franco, who played Harry Osborn in Spider-Man, called Ruby “a very sweet baby” and said Maguire was “completely consumed with that child.”

Separation and Co-Parenting
After nine years of marriage, Maguire and Meyer announced their separation in 2016. They issued a joint statement shared with PEOPLE.
“After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple,” the statement read. “As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship.”
Meyer filed for divorce in October 2020. In August 2025, Maguire requested joint legal and physical custody of Otis in response to Meyer’s filings.
Rare Public Appearances
Ruby has largely stayed out of the spotlight. In December 2022, she made a rare red-carpet appearance alongside her father at the Babylon premiere in Los Angeles when she was 16.
Otis was photographed with his parents when he was younger but has remained private into his adolescence.
What to watch next: The outcome of Maguire’s August 2025 custody request was not confirmed in the source text.
